Interesting Take on a Holiday Wedding

Happy Wednesday Scribblers. I hope you’re all having a great week. Today I want to share my thoughts on this short story I picked up by G.B. Lindsey (learn more here) The story is Out with the Old (find it here). Check out my review below:

I’m so happy I picked up a copy of ‘Out with the Old’ by G.B. Lindsey. I wasn’t sure what I was expecting with this holiday MM Christmas Romance, however, as I read the story, I began to understand (I think) what the author was trying to do. This story is about miscommunication, youth, and pain, and how it affects us through our lives. In this case, we get to see the lives of three former friends who get back together for a Christmas wedding of their friend Amanda-Claire (or Mandy). The wedding is over the top and awkward, as most weddings are. We follow along with Trey as he goes through all the emotions and memories of the past and present and how his first kiss with Sandy affected him not only in his last year of highschool, but even now (10 years later).

Lindsey gave us all the background via flashbacks, but only through Trey’s eyes, which I enjoyed because when you only see one side of a memory you are bound to miss things, and that is exactly what happened here. Reading this short story might not be easy for some people, as Trey has a long-held grudge, rightly or wrongly the grudge is part of who he is and makes him the man he is currently. For me, I found his grudge and pain interesting, and I enjoyed seeing the story play out through his eyes (even though I’ll admit I found Trey a bit frustrating and annoying at times).

I think what helps this story is it’s length, if this was a typical novel length story (around 300 pages) I would have had a hard time with the book, but as the novel is, I felt it was perfect.

The characters are interesting and engaging, and most importantly, they felt honest to me, another big plus in my book. I also really liked that Lindsey didn’t go full bore with sex in this story, there was no need for it. You got the romance elements without them jumping in bed (or a bathroom, or closet) to have sex.

There are a lot of great elements to this story and it’s worth an absolute read, but I will offer this warning to you, if you want a short story about two hot guys hooking up at a holiday wedding this isn’t the story for you. If you want to read a well-crafted tale about youth, life and love (and how it can affect us for both good and bad) then give this read a go. I would love to see a follow up story with these same characters, perhaps from Sandy’s point of view, maybe that will happen, maybe not, but I would read it.

Well there you go. I hope you’ll pick up a copy of Out with the Old (click here) by G.B. Lindsey (check them out here). Until next time have a great week.

The World Continue to Crumble as the Unicorn Horn Thrives

Happy Wednesday Scribblers, I hope you are having a wonderful week and I trust you all had a happy Easter. This week I’m pleased to share my review of J. P. Jackson (learn more here) newest short story; Skin Sessions: Stitched up Tight (find out more here). This is the fifth short story in Jackson’s Skin Sessions series. This is a dark and sexy story and not for the faint at heart, consider yourself warned.

Here is my review:

This is the fifth installment of Skin Sessions a short story series, by J.P. Jackson. If you aren’t familiar with J.P. Jackson’s work this is a dark and sexy series that has a way of boring into your skin and not leaving. Stitched UP Tight continues the story of the Unicorn Horn, a male brothel that finds itself owned by an Incubus Taz-rial. The demon has been true to his word so far, but we get hints that there is more coming, I’m not sure if Taz-rial is going to be all he appears to be, but for now he seems to be a demon of honor and doesn’t want anything to happen to his brothel or the men who work there.

If you enjoy mm sex then you are in for a treat as there are pages and pages of sex, however the scenes are written in a honest way that most authors in the mm romance/erotica genre can’t seem to grasp. In general, in not interested in reading the sex scenes (you’ve read one you’ve read them all) so I skimmed through them sadly make this story very short, (did I mention there are pages and pages of sex scenes), however I did have a pay some attention as Jackson wrangled story and plot elements into these scenes making them important to the plot (darn you Jackson!).

If you enjoy dark sexy stories this is another must read by Jackson.

Well, there you go. My thought on J.P. Jackson’s fifth installment of Skin Sessions (find the book here). Until next time have a great week.

Book Announcement and Happy Thanksgiving 2022

Happy Wednesday Scribblers. I want to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving (for those here in the US), and I want to share all the things I am thankfully for. Also, today I want to share my good friend, Glenn Quigley’s, newest holiday short story coming out on December 20, 2022; The Great Santa Showdown.

I want to wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving, no matter how you are spending this day (and the weekend) I hope you get to take some time for yourself and be in the moment. Enjoy those you have around you, or enjoy the piece and quiet. As with this same time last year we all need to take these moments and be thankful for all the small things we have in our lives. This year I want to share all the things I’m thankful for:

  • My husband Eric, it’s hard to believe this year will be 24 years, but it is and I couldn’t be more pleased that we have had all these wonderful years together.

  • My Family, they can work each and ever nerve I have at times, but I’m thankful for each and every one of them.

  • My Friends, friendship is so important and I’m so blessed to have so many good friends in my life. It’s been great reconnecting with so many of them over the last few months. It’s been wonderful.

  • My home, it may not be the best place in the world but I like it and I’m thankful we have it.

  • My job, I have a great boss who I respect and have enjoyed working with all these years. For me it’s not about the work, but the people.

  • My writing, with each year that passes I find I love my writing more and more and I can’t imagine my life without it.

  • My health, I’ve lost about 70 pounds (or about 32kg). I can’t say I’m feeling any different then I did before I lost all the weight, but I look a lot better, so that is a big win.

  • Being able to travel, it has been so nice to travel again. We haven’t traveled as much as we used to, but we still take our trips and I’m looking forward to doing more in the coming year.

  • All the little things, there are so many small things I’m grateful for that I can’t name them all, but I’m very grateful for all of them.

What are you thankful for? If you’d like to share below I would love read it.

Now on to the book announcement. My good friend Glenn Quigley (learn more here), has a new holiday short story coming out: The Great Santa Showdown. The short story is up for preorder now (find it here) and will be out on December 10, 2022. Here is a bit about the short story.

A little town needs a big Santa, and both John and Gregory are ready to prove they’ve got what it takes. This Christmas, it’s time to sleigh the competition!

It's two weeks before Christmas and the official Santa Claus of the small town of Yuleboro is retiring. Bookstore owner Gregory has long dreamed of taking over the role. However, he's not the only one, as tree farmer John has been waiting his whole life for this opportunity. Alongside a host of other competitors, they’ll battle their way through a tournament designed to test the skills of any would-be Kris Kringles, and find it takes more than a belly and a beard to wear the red suit. And as Gregory and John go head-to-head in the first-ever Great Santa Showdown, it's not just the competition that heats up!

THE GREAT SANTA SHOWDOWN is a cozy short story inspired by watching way too many Hallmark movies and wondering why nobody ever falls for the gorgeous, cuddly Santa Claus. Gregory and John are in their sixties, both are bearded, burly, single, and gay. The setting is the small, all-American town of Yuleboro, where they do the holidays right. From Dasher’s Diner, to Sinterklaas Square, to Santa’s Jolly Olde Lodge, the whole town is a festive wonderland. So pull on your favorite sweater, pour yourself a cup of hot chocolate, and settle in for one great big bear hug of a story!

That’s all for now. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and until next time, have a great week.

$.99 Short Story – A Tended Garden

Happy Wednesday Scribblers. This week I’m thrilled to share that my author buddy J.P. Jackson has a new short story out. It’s $.99 so you can go wrong, and this is a wonderful way to get to know J.P.’s writing. Here is the blurb:

Alyssa is a natural witch whose thoughts have a way of coming true. Her coven is the only one around – well, the only one she’ll practice her beliefs with – but her high priestess, Rachel, is particularly difficult to please.

But Rachel has a secret she hasn’t told anyone in her coven – one that her ancestral witches before her kept from their covens too. If Rachel’s to hold on to her traditions and the immortality she’s been promised, she’ll have to keep the women in her coven returning to the sacred grove, and that includes Alyssa.

But secrets have a way of being revealed, and when Alyssa stumbles across Rachel’s violent and horrifying history with the trees of the grove, the pact between the sacred grove and Rachel’s family may have a price too steep to pay.
